Food Gatherers
Food Gatherers exists to eliminate hunger and its causes in Washtenaw county. They provide over 18,000 meals a day in our community, distribute food to 170 community partners and engage with over 5,500 volunteers each year. We’re proud to work with such an amazing organization and were excited to create a fresh, vibrant website that provides easy-to-use resources for our neighbors in need.
Keeping It Simple
After discussions with Food Gatherers, we identified that the site needed to serve multiple audiences. Not only was it vital for those in need to easily find food, but it was also important that those looking to donate and/or volunteer could quickly find relevant information. In addition, it was important that the site could be translated in multiple languages.
We added three large, bright buttons at the top of the layout that are clearly marked for each audience and added a “select language” drop-down that allows users to translate the site into Arabic, Chinese or Spanish. By keeping the layout clean and simple, users are easily able to navigate to what matters most to them.
Find Food Resources Map
We learned that when someone is looking for food, the need is often time-sensitive – they need food quickly. We customized and transformed an existing WordPress plug-in into an easy-to-use tool where visitors could easily identify where to find food 24/7. The new tool allows users to enter their address to search for nearby food pantries, meal distribution sites, home delivery and food stamp assistance options.
